How Much Does Mobile App Development Cost in Vietnam?

A practical way to estimate a mobile app built in Vietnam: define the app, understand what drives effort, compare three illustrative scoped examples, include QA and release work, and plan the costs that continue after launch.

Key takeaways

  • App cost = effort hours × rates, driven by user roles, journeys, platforms, integrations and the backend and admin work behind the app.
  • Three illustrative scopes show how effort grows from a simple booking app to an integration-heavy product; every assumption is stated.
  • Budget separately for launch costs (QA, store setup, release) and recurring costs (hosting, services, maintenance).

“How much does an app cost?” has no single answer, but it does have a reliable method. Effort depends on what the app does, which platforms it targets and how much backend and admin work sits behind it. Once you know the effort, cost follows from rates and team structure. This guide shows the method, three illustrative scopes and the ongoing costs that many first budgets miss.

All hours and rates in this article are illustrative assumptions for planning. They are not a PoliteTech quote. A real estimate depends on your requirements, design and integrations.

Define the app before pricing it

Before asking for estimates, describe:

  • User roles: for example customers, service providers and administrators.
  • Core journeys: sign up, search, book, pay, chat, review — the flows that must work in the first release.
  • Admin needs: content management, user management, reporting, support tools.
  • Backend: data storage, business rules, notifications and integrations.
  • Platforms: iOS, Android or both; whether a web version is needed.

A list of journeys is far more useful to an estimator than a list of features, because it shows how screens connect and where data flows.

Effort drivers for mobile apps.

Cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter and React Native often reduce effort when both platforms are needed, but the saving is not a fixed percentage; it depends on how much native work the app requires. We discuss the choice in Native or cross-platform.

Compare three scoped app examples

The table uses one illustrative blended rate of $30 per hour to keep the arithmetic transparent. Real estimates apply different rates by role.

Feature effort worksheet

Use this structure to build your own estimate request:

Search and filteriOS, AndroidYes—Must
PaymentsiOS, AndroidYesPayment providerShould

Feature × effort worksheet. Ask vendors to estimate each line.

Include QA and release work

Testing and release are real work, not an afterthought:

  • Device testing: a defined matrix of devices and OS versions.
  • Automated tests: for critical flows, especially payments and sign-up.
  • Beta testing: TestFlight on iOS and internal or closed testing tracks on Android.
  • Store setup: listings, screenshots, privacy information and review responses.
  • Accounts: Google Play charges a one-time US$25 registration fee; Apple requires a paid Apple Developer Program membership to distribute apps. Register both in your company’s name.

Decide who owns launch tasks: your team, the vendor or both.

Plan ongoing costs

Build versus recurring budget.

Mobile apps need regular updates as Apple and Google release new OS versions and change store requirements. Our guide to software maintenance costs explains how to plan this budget.

Want your feature list turned into a scoped estimate?

Prepare an app estimate request

Send each vendor the same package:

  1. A short description of the problem and users.
  2. User roles and core journeys, prioritised.
  3. Platforms and any preference for framework.
  4. Integrations and data sources.
  5. Existing assets: designs, brand guidelines, APIs, previous app versions.
  6. Budget range and target launch window.
  7. Questions about ownership of code and accounts.

Ask vendors to state assumptions and exclusions, and to separate one-time and recurring costs. That makes their estimates comparable.

Frequently asked questions

Is cross-platform always cheaper?

Often, when both platforms are needed and the app uses standard features. The saving shrinks when the app needs significant native code.

Why do estimates for the same app differ so much?

Usually because vendors assume different scope, design depth, backend work or testing. Compare assumptions line by line.

Should I start with an MVP?

For new products, a focused first release reduces risk. See our guide to MVP development cost.

Can I get a fixed price?

Many vendors offer fixed prices for well-defined scope, often after a discovery phase. Changes are then handled through change requests.
